What is Pari-mutuel racing? |
|
Originated by a Frenchman, Pierre Oller, the word
means "among ourselves". The track is a host for the
races, and has no interest in which greyhounds win or
lose. The bettor never bets against the track, only
against other betters. The track merely holds the
money wagered until the finish of the race and pays
the winning ticket holds accordingly. |
|
|
|
How are payoff prices determined? |
|
The win price is the result of dividing the amount of
money wagered on the winner into the total win pool,
less lawful deductions. The place pool is divided
between the two greyhounds and each half is
apportioned to ticket holders appropriately based on
the number of tickets held. The show pool is split
into three divisions and apportioned accordingly to
the number of valid tickets held. All other pools
(i.e., quiniela, perfecta, trifecta, etc.) are
determined similarly. |

What is the grading system for greyhounds? |
|
There are six grades of greyhounds indicated by A, B,
C, D, E and M (Maiden). A race is generally comprised
of the same grade, the winner of the race will advance
until reaching grade A. Generally if a greyhound fails
to finish in the top 3 in three consecutive starts in
the same grade that greyhound will be lowered one
grade except in D where a greyhound may fail to finish
4th or better in four consecutive starts before being
lowered. |
