Friday - 11/6/2009
The hits just keep on rolling on this weekend at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Loads of the top talent at the racetrack will be on hand and each will be giving their all for the victories in their respective races.

You will get to see grade A events over 550 and 660 yards on Friday and Saturday evening and in almost all of the events, there is a win streak on the line. Several have won a couple of grade A's in a row and will look for the 3-peat in these efforts.

So without further ado, let's jump right into the action with the 7th race on the card for Friday evening. Here two greyhounds are looking for that third win in a row as the recent addition, Kiowa Judge, and Ze's Chayo have both won their last two races in a row. Judge has been more impressive though as he has won 3 in his last 4 starts and has not missed the trifecta in any of his last 5 efforts. He has breaking extremely well and once in the lead, the race is all but over. The 8 box should do him just find and all he has to do is show up and this race could easily be his for the taking. Chayo is the better breaking of the pair but he normally pays for it late in the race. He has been short on a couple of occasion, but to his credit, he has also held on to win 3 in his last 6 attempts. Chayo has just recently found his true potential and is liking all of the added attention that it has been giving him. He might not have the name power as of yet, but his skills might get him there soon. A win tonight would go a long way to making that happen sooner than later. Speaking of name power, the next guy needs no introduction. Count Ivan is also lurking in this race and he too has won 3 of his last 5 starts. If the Count wants to run, we all know what will happen in this effort, he will WIN FOR FUN! Breaking has been his trouble as of late though as he has only seen the early lead on one occasion in his last 6 efforts. To his credit he has been learning to win from off the pace and that might just be what he has to do to take home the win tonight. The 5 box doesn't do him any favors either, so we are left with the question. Which COUNT shows up? Kiowa Venessa is the queen of the wrong post position in this race. She is as wide as they come and in this effort she starts from the railest of rail posts, the 1 box. Helping her there though will be her early speed. She has a solid rush and that should get her into contention early on in this one. Will it be enough for her to find a hole to the outside part of the racetrack? I don't know, but with 5 efforts in a row in the money in grade A, she has to be still be considered a factor throughout in this effort.

Race 10 is not only the first half of the Twin-Trifecta force out, it is also a great match-up between two of the best and fastest at the racetrack. How about Ru Tuff Enuf and Hallo Mitch in the same race and each riding high off a win in their last efforts? Sounds good to me, but who gets the nod? I'll take Tuff Enuf! Why? I don't know, he just has the IT thing that we can't understand. When this greyhound wants to run, IT is all over! He will do whatever IT takes to win the race and that is just what you are going to see tonight. He has posted up victories in 3 of his last 4 efforts and each came over a very talented field of greyhounds. So the 7 box might not be the one box, but as long as he can get out cleanly, he is going unabated to the lead and to the wire for the win tonight. Mitch must not be considered out of it that easily though. He has won 3 races as well in his lines showing in the book, including his last 2 efforts in row. The race you really need to look at though is his other win showing. Five races back, he stopped the clock at almost a track record, 30.19 seconds, as he left the field 9 lengths behind him at the wire. If he can get to the early lead from this favorable post position, he might be the one that takes home the checkered flag at the finish line. Lns Getoverthat is Rodney Dangerfield of the racetrack. She never gets enough credit. Ok so she doesn't win a ton of the time or anything, but she does give her all in each and every start and finds a way into the money in almost all of them. Just look at her last 6 races! 5 of them have been money cashes and the closest finishes were from nearby post positions. With extra room early on she should make the most of the post and do what she does best again here, finish in the superfecta at the wire. Kiowa Smedley is a good closer that has been rebounding as of late. He tore up the racetrack when he arrived from Mardi Gras, but then went into a bit of a slump. Over the last few races he seems to be getting things back on track and, with another outside post position, that trend should continue on in this effort. If he clears with the leaders, he could make the all work for the win in this race tonight.

The great racing continues on in race 11 as two possible puppy stakes entries look to make another statement leading up to the entry process. Uss Fine Touch and Gm's Cashman have both shown some tremendous skills, but Fine Touch gets the nod on pure experience. This greyhound has been there and done that, with 3 wins in her last 5 starts. She has not missed the trifecta in 9 races in a row and can run from the outside as well as the inside. She has a good rush to the turn and can still come and get you from just off the pace as needed to win a race. She is a complete greyhound and should prove best in this effort. Props still go out to Cashman though. This greyhound is racing in his first grade A event, but how he got there that is so impressive. This is just his 8th official race and if you look at his lines, he pretty much jumped all the way to grade A in a straight line. Forget about the fall, does that count really anyways, NO! He won M, D, C, B and now gets to take on the big boys and girls. He has a good break and a great rush to the turn and has already shown that he has the speed to contend against the best. If he shakes looks early, it is going to be very interesting to see just how he does at the finish line. Now on to the closing veterans of this field. Deerfield Moss and Jayvan both can come from off the tailgate to win races in grade A, but will they have an insurmountable lead to make up before the wire, or not? Working for each is the post position. Moss likes is outside and gets the 8 box and Jayvan likes it on the rail and gets the 2 box. So with such similar styles, who is better equipped for the upset? Moss is! He has won twice in his last 5 races and has shown that he can get up before the wire for the win. One of those came from the same 8 box that he has in this effort, so even though he might not be around early, everyone better pay attention to him late. Jayvan still has to be a threat too as she has not missed the money in 6 races in a row. Ok, so no wins, but still she doesn't give up and in her other 2 starts from a rail post she was just off in second at the finish line. If the mood suits her and everything else goes her way, she has a outside chance at the upset in this effort.

Capping off the evening in the 15th race we move over to the longer 660 yard course and take a big look at a stakes winner in the process. Racheal Lee has been closing furiously over her last several races but has yet to get back into the winner's circle at the wire. She did win one 6 races ago and she is long overdue for another trip to the top spot. She is totally the best closer in this field and after watching her last race, I think she is poised to make some noise once again in this effort. The 4 box is close enough to the rail to be effective, and besides, the greyhounds to her inside all break and will be out of her way early on. Don't look for her in the first half of this effort, she won't be around, but in the stretch we all know what we are going to see. HER, flying up at the finish line to steal away a win. Dueling on the front end and making Racheal earn every step will be the veteran Hobo Dan and the newcomer On The Fly. Both have shown that they can get to the lead over 660 yard and once in front both have proven tough to take down. Dan has way more experience and should be the one to catch tonight. If Racheal waits too long to rally, Dan could easily post up his 3rd in his last 4 races, but more likely he will pay for the early speed in the stretch and settle for place. On The Fly made a big entrance into 660 yards with a 9 length win and even though she has not backed up that effort in grade A with a win, she has been competitive in both of her recent starts. She was in the money in each and chased the pace throughout. Forget about getting outclosed in her last race. It was Racheal and another strong closer, La's Lucy from DQ that ecked by her near the wire. No shame there! Tonight she needs to get out in a hurry though if she wants a chance to win this effort. It will take a bit time effort, but the inside post might just give her an added edge in this race. Now before we get done let's not forget the other closer on the outside that won a race in her last effort. Xtra Style is coming into this effort hot off a 7 length win and even though it was grade B, she might have her sites on winning this race too. I still think Racheal is the best closer here, but Style might just be right on her heels. With such similar style of racing, it might be hard for each to get room throughout without getting in each other's way at some point on the racetrack. The post is her friend in this effort as she will be far away from the crowd and should get room early on. If she decides to come out close, this field will be on upset alert early on tonight.

Saturday - 11/7/2009
Time for another nice looking young pup to step back up the plate in the 7th race on the card for Saturday evening. Wp's Commodore has shown some signs of greatness on occasion and it is time to get back to one of those efforts. Sure he might not be on the rail in this race, but he has enough speed to see the early lead in this race and once in front you can run wherever you want on the racetrack. It's hard not to notice that 9 length win, in 30.59, 4 races ago and that should be enough to consider him the favorite in this race. Rooftop Queen B gets a notice here too, all because of the 1 box. This greyhound loves to race on the rail and everything is better in red! She has a solid rush to the turn and whenever she gets close to the lead in any race, she runs as hard as she can. Tonight I don't know if she can steal enough early to hold on for the win, but it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility for her to do so in this race. Kiowa Stan Cay is a solid grade A competitor that has finished 2nd in 3 of his last 5 races. As of late winning is not his forte, but chasing and contending seem to be. He has a good rush to the 1st turn, and like Queen, if he is close, watch out! Working against him in this effort is the post position. Stan is all rail all the time and has to start out from the far outside in this effort. The 8 box is not the 1, but if he decides to come out in a hurry, he could make the most of the post that he has in this effort. With more career wins than any other greyhound in this field, Stan knows what it takes to get a win and might just upset in this race tonight. Jean's Gypsy is the big closer in the field that has just recently moved back to 550 yards from the longer 660 yard course. She has not fared well in her 550 yard starts so far, but a third last time out was a good improvement over her previous pair of 5th place finishes. One of the key differences in her last race was the post position. She finally drew something inside and backs that up once again in this effort with another strong rail post. Winning might be a stretch for this greyhound tonight, but running in the money is certainly a possibility. Look for her to advance throughout and find a way into the money once again tonight.

Time to pull the trigger in the 11th race as Cjc'S Buckshot is locked, loaded, and ready to fire at the competition. He has won back to back races, and when I say won, I mean demolished everyone in his path. Normally a closer, Buckshot has been way to close too early in his last couple of race and in turn it has gotten UGLY as the race goes on. He has won by 9 and almost 11 lengths in those two races and in the last one, it came from the very same post that he has in this effort. Racing against a talented field tonight, it is not going to be another run way victory. But a win, is a win, is a win! Rays Balto has really found his groove over the last couple of weeks. He started to get back into the slot with a couple of in the money efforts and in his last 2 races he has proven untouchable. He has bolted from the starting box and took early control of both efforts. He coasted all the way to the wire for the wins and with another rail post, he might have the opportunity to do it again! He might not have won by 11, but he ran faster than Buckshot did in his win on the same card. FOOD for thought! Hallo Mr Great has stepped up his game as well and has not missed the top 4 positions in any of his last 6 races. He has won two of those starts and looked really tough on top in those efforts. So he is a bit short at the end of the race, but if he makes the lead and gets some help behind him, he too has a shot to steal away a win in this effort. Midtrack is where he wants to be and is close enough here with the 3 box in order to be effective. Expect for him to break well here and one way or another, he will factor amongst the leaders throughout in this effort. Dirty Picture is a big time finisher from the DQ Williams Kennel that will be picking them up and putting them down throughout in this effort. He too has not missed the money in any of his last 6 races in a row and that streak will not end in this race, despite the tough middle post position. Picture runs his best from the outside and is not quite there in the 4 box tonight. He could easily overcome that if he could get out of the starting box, but that only happens on special occasion and I'm not sure that tonight qualifies as one. No matter where he is at the start, know one thing for sure, he will be coming on strong at the end of this race to threaten the leaders in the deep stretch.

Saving the best for last, the hardest race of the weekend might just be the 15th and final one on the card for Saturday Evening. This race is packed full of talent and several greyhounds might just have a shot to take home the win. So let's go with the multi-stakes finalists, La's Anthony. Just like dear old dad, Dustin The Way, Anthony loves the rail and can put up some very impressive times and wins from the coveted red box. Tonight that is just where he starts from and it also helps that he has been running pretty tough as of late too. With 3 wins and 5 quinielas in his last 6 starts, the man in on his game, and tonight you will get more of the same. By no means will this effort be one that will come easy, but I think he has enough to get it done in this effort. Sobe Cream Puff might just be a puppy, but she has already shown that she can go toe to toe with the big names on the circuit. Ok so in grade A she has only one once, but still she is doing pretty well with only 10 career races under her belt. Did I mention that she has won half of those races, yep 5, and finished in the money 7 times? Well I did now and from this good rail post she should be in contention throughout in this effort. She was next best last time out to Anthony and starting closer early on, she should finish closer at the wire here. Now for the fastest greyhound ever at the Orange Park Kennel Club, Kiowa Swizzle. Swizzle, if you don't know, is a monster on the front end and if he gets the lead early on in this race, the race will be for PLACE! He hasn't really shown that kind of break in awhile at the racetrack, but what he has shown is a new determined closing ability. He used to lack a bit of effort without the lead in his race, but recently he has started to come from off the pace and challenge even if he is not in front at the start of the race. He has been in the superfecta in 4 of his last 5 efforts and that includes a pair of wins from off of the early pace. Post may play a part here too as he likes it way outside, the 8 box, or way inside, the 1 box, and will have to do from almost the middle of the racetrack. Tonight it's all up to him! Whatever greyhound shows up, will be the determining factor between a win, an in the money finish, or an out of the money effort. Gs Ocean Blue is another upstart that will be making his first grade A appearance in what will be just his 10th career race. This greyhound has looked great and with back to back impressive wins, he has shown that he has what it takes to be considered a threat to win a grade A event. Ocean Blue has a great rush to the turn and that has kept him in the mix in every race that he has ever run. So far he has never run worst than 3rd, but if he wants that to continue in this effort, he is going to have to step it up a notch against some of the best greyhounds at the racetrack. Don't count him out of it just yet, he has a great post and no big speed around him. If he decides to hit the lid for a third straight race, the longshot might just light-up the toteboard at the finish line tonight.
