Race Results for Round 1 of the 2009  JGR Puppy Stakes at the Orange Park Kennel Club
5/22/2009 - Wired To Wind Dominates in 1st Round!
The DQ Williams Kennel’s Wired To Wind (Let’s Winndine – Faith Keeper) left not doubt about just which greyhound is the one to beat in the 2009 edition of the JGR Puppy Stakes.

Breaking from the 2 box, Wind, left nothing to chance in this effort. Normally a closer, he rushed strongly from the box and took quick command of this effort. Once in front it just got UGLY, as he increased his lead throughout and left the field in his wake 8 and a half lengths behind him a the finish line. Not only was that the most impressive race in the stakes, but it was the best on the card and the only time the clock was stopped under 31.00, his time 30.83.

Experience might have something to do with it too as this is his 3rd time in against stakes competition. Wind made the finals and almost won the 2009 Orange Park Derby, and it took everything All-American Penny Candy had to beat him out at the wire. He also competed in this year's Jacksonville Sprint Classic, where he made it to the quarter-finals after a rough first round effort.

B & J also had a pretty good showing out of a pair of puppies. Fth Keystone Cop (Dodgem By Design – Cm Lil Bit) and Fth Fiyacracker (Fth Redmoonrisin – Piki Thang) both came out running in their efforts as they outrushed everyone to the turn and maintained a quick pace on the lead to take home the victories. B & J was the only kennel that took home more than one stakes round and they have these two talented pups to thank for their effort.

Cop looked a bit more impressive though as he increased his margin throughout this race. He extended his short 2 length lead at the turn to 4 by the finish line and in the process he posted up the second fastest time in qualifying at 31.12 seconds.

Fiyacracker was no slouch either as he was just back in 31.18 seconds and held solid from the first turn all the way to the wire a couple of lengths in front of everyone that was trying to chase her down.

The shocker of the night came in the 10th race as Favorite La’s Lucy, hot off 5 wins in a row in grade A, had a horrendous trip around the oval and the quick breaking Where’s J Bee (Lonesome Cry – Rj Added Value) took full advantage of the favorites rough trip. He cruised along throughout this race and extended all the way to the wire for the easy victory. Lucy to her credit though, never gave up at any point in this race and despite the bumping thru the 1st turn; she turned it on late and took away the place position in the deep stretch.

Other winners included:
Slatex Kabuki from Pat Collins, Kb’s Next Level from Lester Raines, Els Coco from Falcon, and Hallo Mr Great from O’Donnell.

Second round action takes place on Monday Matinee May 25th at the Orange Park Kennel Club. All 8 fields of greyhounds will be back and ready to try and steal some more points away in the sakes.

Special Holiday Matinee ONLY performance and these rounds run in conjunction with our BBQ special and out Red, White and Blue $$ - CASH - $$ giveaway!
