Race Results for Round 2 of the 2009  JGR Puppy Stakes at the Orange Park Kennel Club
5/25/2009 - Calling All Cars, Keystone Cop on a Roll
No greyhound was more impressive in the second round of the 2009 JGR Puppy Stakes than Fth Keystone Cop (Dodgem By Design - Cm Lil Bit). Not only did he win his second race in a row to remain undefeated in the qualifying rounds, he took down his biggest threat in the process.

Wired To Wind was the stand out in round one, but on this occasion he didn't clear as close and Keystone Cop raced off with the early lead and the victory. His recent rest has done him good and the fresh legs have really added to his efforts in the stakes so far, and in this race you could really tell as he came from a little off the pace to run down the leader before the wire for the win.

Keystone Cop has some pride on the line as well. His kennel, B & J, are the defending champs of this event and his half brother, Take It Over, (SAME MOM), was the winner, even more reason for him to show up. Switching roles with Wired To Wind, he now seems to be in the driver's seat heading into the quarter-finals.

Keystone Cop is not alone at the top though, three other greyhounds are also unbeaten in the stakes and have greatly improved their chances at seeing the finals.

Kb's Next Level (Dodgem By Design - Bf Pina) has broke close in both rounds of the stakes and has been relentless down the backside to take control before the far turn. Once in the lead he has been coasting home for the easy wins and in the second round, he was the quickest of the quick. His 30.75 second clocking was faster than any other greyhound on the card, including Keystone Cop, and it came in the very last race. If he keeps breaking like he has been, he is going to be tough to keep out of the final round field. Hallo Mr Great (Hallo Mr Finigan - Kiowa Kay Dime) has really made the most of his early speed to take home back to back wins in the stakes. Breaking on top in the 1st round might have been something, but his second round effort was even better. Here he didn't see the front at the start and outrushed everyone to the easy lead at the first turn. From that point on it just got UGLY, as he drove away late and left the field almost 7 lengths behind him at the finish line. He has been getting stronger in each and every effort as of late and if he continues to hammer from the box, he is a shoe in for the next step in the process.

The remaining undefeated greyhound would have to be considered a longshot. Els Coco (Fuzzy Cannon - Do The Mambo) has only been in grade A once and started out this competition in grade C. Here she has really been breaking well and has posted up back to back victories to not only return to grade A, but to go unbeaten in the 1st two rounds of the stakes. Her second round race was exceptional! Showing a ton of heat throughout she clung to a slim lead for the majority of the race and in the stretch she gave everything she had to hold on at the wire for the win. Coming into her own, she is a force to be reckoned with in the remaining races.

Other winners in the second round were:
Hallo Cool Cash - O'Donnell Kennel, Rs Libby Lu - Stacey Blanch Kennel, Jeans Winningboy - DQ Williams Kennel and Cjc's Knock Out - Lester Raines Kennel.

For the quarter-finals the field has been cut in half and the remaining 32 greyhounds will go to post on Friday Evening May 29th at the Orange Park Kennel Club.
