Race Results for Round 3 of the 2009  JGR Puppy Stakes at the Orange Park Kennel Club
5/29/2009 - Wired To Wind Back in Spotlight
Once again Wired to Winds broke close and rushed best to the turn and if anyone saw the first round, you know the outcome of this race was going to be. He continued to draw away from the field with each and every stride and crossed the finish line 10 lengths beyond the rest. He stopped the clock at 30.56 seconds which was clearly the best time on the day! In reality the next fastest was 30.89, by his kennelmate Sassy Gloria, so he was 6 lengths faster than anyone else on the card. With this win and his other in the first round and his third place finish in the second, Wind is well on his way to a spot in the finals of this event. All he has to do is show up next time out, and it should be a done deal.

Rs Libby Lu helped out her chances too as she burst from the starting box and survived at the finish line for the slim win. This was no easy task either as a couple of strong greyhounds were nipping at her heels. Point leader, Fth Keystone Cop almost pulled off the 3 peat, but he came up just a nose too short at the finish line, and Jeans Winningboy showed that his second round win was no fluke as he was just a head behind the winner in the photo.

Cjc’s Knockout also got it done for the second straight trip as he burst from the starting box and gave a gritty determined effort to hold of another strong pair of greyhounds at the finish line. Jeans Hiedi chased throughout the race and even though she chipped away with every stride, she still could not get up close enough to take over for the win. Fth Fiyacracker was a solid third and was right in the thick of things for the duration and was just a couple of lengths off at the finish line.

Shocking everyone again was Slatex Kabuki. Another burst to the lead and another upset win for the Collins Kennel runner. This is his second in three rounds of the stakes and it helps position him for a shot at a final round appearance. NJ’s Noble Fred was second here and race favorite La’s Lucy got into trouble again. If she every clears they are all in trouble, but so far she has not made it around the turn once. If the pre-race favorite, she had 5 grade A wins in a row heading into the stakes, wants to make the finals she is going to need a win and some help in order to get there.

Monday evening the Semi-Finals is going to be very interesting as the points are really spread all over the place. Each and every one is going to be needed to make a place in the final eight for Saturday evening. Right now several spots are up for grabs and of the 24 remaining greyhounds, a third of the field has 2 wins in the qualifying rounds.
