If you like betting on favorite then the first round of the 2009 James J Patton Marathon Stakes was for you. All three of the race time favorites didn't disappoint, but a few had it a bit easier than the other one did at the wire.
Leading the way with the best trip of the night was the 2008 winner of this race, Racheal Lee. This little girl loves this distance and proved it again in this race tonight. She was no where near the early lead in this one but as the race progressed, so did she. She just kept on coming and with a huge move up the backside, she took command in the far turn and was racing off alone in the stretch for the easy victory. She finished in the quickest time on the night, 43.99 seconds, and cruised to a 5 length margin at the wire. She looked really strong and put her stamp on this distance once again with this effort. She is clearly the one to beat again in this stakes race for the second year in a row. Finishing second was Eds Go For It who closed well thruout this effort and early leader, Glo's Legend settled for third. Let's not forget Kiowa Fuzzy Fern either. Showing some late chops too, she was in the photo for place as well but ended up in forth. Completing the race was Uss Out Of Sight in 5th, Jeansinittowinit in 6th, Gil's Maryland in 7th and Sunsand Violet in 8th.

The next most impressive race on the card belong to Xtra Style. Normally a closer, Xtra Style went to the lead from the box and this race was over instantaniouly. Talk about your total control, Style just plain old put a whoppin on this field. She was never in question any point thruout this trip and dominated this field from the moment the box opened all the way thru the wire. She finished almost 5 lengths clear of her nearest competitor and posted up an impressive 44.03 clocking. Even though she finished second props should go out to Lover Girl Bambi too. She was in and out of traffic thruout and still managed to close up strong in the stretch to prove next best at the wire. Ethereal Prize was a game threat early, but was outrun late for show and Hallo Cable Boy came from last to complete the superfecta. Rounding out this field was Gs Rambo in 5th, Pat C Napless in 6th, It's Gonnahappen in 7th and Mrl Platinum in 8th.

Although she might not have dominated like the other two winners did, 2008 All-American Penny Candy did what winner's do, she won! Breaking close she took the whole long run to the 1st turn to get into the lead and from that point on everyone though the race was over and it was going to be another romp. She continued to increase her lead to three lengths over the rest of the field and maintained that margin all the way to the top of the stretch. This is where it got interesting. In only her 2nd start over the 770 yard course, Deco Insta Hart just didn't give up. With every stride she was getting closer and closer and closer to the leader. Penny's lead was shrinking and shrinking and shrinking, but in the end Insta Hart just ran out of time. Penny survived at the wire to win by a half a length and despite all of her effort, Insta Hart had to settle for second. Kl's Frannie never varied from box to wire in third and Git N Moody progressed some up into 4th at the finish line. Finishing out this race was Bbr Off Season in 5th, Pat C Petula in 6th, Trial Notice in 7th and Just One Night in 8th.
