8/24/2009 - B & J Impressive Again, But Not Quite TUFF ENUF
Continues success for the B & J Kennel! Only three greyhounds remain undefeated in the stakes and all three of them belong to the B & J Kennel. They also have the top four greyhounds in points, and they are tied with DQ and O'Donnell, with 5 entries remaining in the stakes. All three of their winners looked good, but no one was more impressive than the prerace favorite from the DQ Williams Kennel.

Getting things kick started in a hurry, JGR Puppy Stakes winner Fth Keystone Cop make the most of the post. Breaking well and rushing to the early lead from the 1 box he was never in question in this effort. Slightly drawing away throughout, Copper was coasting on the lead in this effort and even though he was not the favorite, track record holder Kiowa Swizzle was, he showed them who was boss.

Cjc's Buckshot was the next winner for the B & J Kennel and once again he ran a remarkable race. He not only got it done in the stretch, he ran down one of the fastest greyhounds at the racetrack in the process. Here Topaz Hanna stole the lead and held it all the way to the stretch, where La's Anthony took over headed for the wire. Buckshot looked like he was shot out of a cannon as he circled the leaders on the outside and got up in the deep stretch for the win. WOW!

Count Ivan might have run in the last stakes race on the card, but this two time stakes winner didn't disappoint either. He seized early control of the race and held tough throughout for the slim victory. I know it wasn't a win by double digits, but a win is a win is a win. Ready for the next round, Ivan sits with his two unbeaten kennelmates who will be up for the challenge.

The true tone of the evening was set in the 11th race as Ru Tuff Enuf decided that he was not going to finish out of the money in this effort. Breaking sharply, Tuff Enuf, was in command of this race from the get go. He ran the lure away from a talented field and posted up an easy win in the fastest time of the night 30.32 and that came on a slow racetrack. The second fastest time was Take It Over at 30.71 seconds and he was the one that finished next best in this race. The big dog is back and they better get ready for him.

Post positions played key roles in a couple of other races. Both Kiowa More Am and Bl Punch N Judy were not the favorites to win their races, but both greyhounds love that red blanket and showed their stuff.

Kiowa More Am was up first in the 7th race and even though she had to deal with a big closer, Blaze N Ray, and a first round winner, Kiowa Smedley, she was not intimidated. She broke well and forged her way to the early lead in this effort and stole enough early to hold on late for the victory. Let's not forget she won the first 2 rounds of the Jacksonville Sprint Classic and made the finals. She is no stranger to this and could be settling in for another try at a finals.

Bl Punch N Judy was up in the 10th and so far at the Orange Park Kennel Club the 1 box has been her best friend. She has started from this post in 3 of her 9 efforts at the racetrack and she has won all three of those starts. In this one she broke well, rushed to the lead, and maintained her edge all the way to the finish line. Never really in question, Judy, is tough on the front end, now if she can get a couple more one boxes, everyone might be in trouble.

Gabby's Fiona was the other winner from the DQ Williams Kennel in the stakes rounds tonight. This time out she broke like she can and that was the difference maker in this effort. She gave a very determined run on the front end and even though Where's Playpen did push the pace throughout, she was never really in any threat of losing this one. Instant control back to the winner's circle would be a good way to sum up this effort.

The longshot of the evening came by the paws of Red I Rewind. This greyhound came out running in this effort. It almost looked like a false start as he hit the lid and was in command in the very first couple of strides. Sure he was pushed by Gs Aleyah from the get go, but he never thought about it. He just kept on keeping on and maintained his 2 length margin all the way to the wire for the win.
